Overview

  • Private tour: only you and your own group, with your own guide and vehicle
  • Ephesus and back from Istanbul in a single day, with return flights included
  • The Library of Celsus, the great theatre and the marble streets of the ancient city
  • The House of the Virgin Mary, St. John Basilica, Isa Bey Mosque and the Temple of Artemis
  • Traditional lunch with a soft drink and all entrance tickets included
  • Back at your Istanbul hotel the same evening

Ephesus was one of the great cities of the Roman world, with a quarter of a million people living in it, and enough of it is still standing that you can walk its marble streets end to end. The Library of Celsus rises two storeys from the square, the theatre that held 25,000 people is cut into the hillside, and the road between them is the one Roman traders and early Christians used. It is an hour's flight from Istanbul, which makes a day trip possible: you fly out at dawn, spend the day on the ground with your own guide, and are back in Istanbul the same night. Above the ruins is the small stone house where the Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last years.

  • The Terrace Houses inside Ephesus have a separate ticket, which is not included. If you would like to see them, you can buy it at the entrance on the day and your guide will take you in.
  • Ephesus is walked end to end on marble and stone paving, mostly downhill. Comfortable shoes are enough, and there is little shade in summer.
  • Of the Temple of Artemis, one reconstructed column remains standing. It is a short stop on the way rather than a site to explore.
