Cappadocia
North of Cappadocia, on a windswept plateau in Corum, are the ruins of the city that ruled Anatolia at the same time as the pharaohs ruled Egypt. Hattusa was the Hittite capital, a walled city of temples and gates, and the treaty its king signed with Ramses II after the battle of Kadesh is the oldest surviving peace treaty in the world. Nearby are Yazilikaya, an open-air rock sanctuary carved with a procession of more than ninety gods, and Alacahoyuk, where the royal tombs and the famous bronze sun discs were found. The second day is Ankara, where the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations holds the originals of almost everything you saw the day before. Around it in the old quarter stand the Citadel and the Roman Temple of Augustus, and above the city is Anitkabir, the mausoleum where Ataturk lies, before your evening flight to Istanbul.
