Hot springs have been coming out of this hillside for thousands of years, and the calcium they carry has built up into white terraces that hold pools of warm water. The Romans built a city on top of it, Hierapolis, with a theatre cut into the slope, a street of tombs running out along the ridge, and baths fed by the same springs. You walk the site with your guide, then come down over the travertines themselves, barefoot, which is the only way visitors are allowed onto them. If you want to swim, the Cleopatra Pool sits among the ruins, with fallen marble columns lying on its floor.

What to expect

• This is a private tour. Only you and your own group take part, with your own guide and vehicle.
• The tour starts and ends at your hotel in Pamukkale or Karahayit. If you are staying somewhere else, tell us and we will arrange it.
• The tour starts at 09:00 and you are back at your hotel around 16:00.
• Lunch with a soft drink is included, taken late in the day.
• All entrance tickets to the site are included.

Good to know before you book

• You walk the travertines barefoot. Shoes are not allowed on them, to protect the surface, so you carry them while you walk down. The stone is uneven but not sharp, and the water is warm.
• The Cleopatra Pool has a separate ticket, which is not included. If you would like to swim, you can buy it at the pool on the day. Bring swimwear and a towel.
• Hierapolis is a large open site with very little shade. In summer bring a hat, water and sun cream.

Cancellation Policy

To receive a full refund, you can cancel up to 24 hours before the tour start date, in local time. Cancellations made after that are non-refundable. For this purpose the tour start time is taken as 09:00.
